Our Story

As we begin this journey of adoption, we want to answer the biggest question:
What led you to adopt or why do you want to adopt?
This has been a conversation we have been having for several years now. We have known we wanted a big family, and we were open to adding to our family through adoption. As our family has grown, the idea of adoption has grown as well.
I would say our primary motivation toward adoption is our faith. We know how God feels about orphans, widows, and the oppressed. And, we want to jump in with His plans to love them and care for them. James 1:27 says, "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." This can look different for everyone. For us, it has meant to go love them and care for them in Moldova, and now it means bringing two orphans into our family forever.
We also understand the great lengths God went to in order to adopt us into His family. He sent Jesus to cover up everything that could keep me from God. The message says this in Ephesians 1:3-10:
How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son. Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people—free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ, a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth.

Our Father modeled that for us. So, we are trusting His plan. We are trusting that adoption matches up with His heart, and so He will carry us through.
We are excited for this adventure. One of our family values is adventure. We truly believe that when we say yes to God, He leads us on an adventure we could never dream up! So, here we go, and thanks for joining along with us.
Up next, I will be answering some of the more practical questions we have already heard a hundred times.
Here is how you can pray for us right now:
Please pray for the country of Burundi. They are under so much turmoil politically. A stable government enables them to take care of their orphans.
Please pray for us as we venture into raising funds for this adoption. We are excited to see how God provides.
